SUBJECT: TREATMENT OF INMATES

EFFECTIVE DATE: January 01, 2004

POLICY:
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility shall provide for the treatment of inmates in a fair, equitable manner, and insure that no form of unlawful discrimination takes place against inmates while in the custody of the jail.

PURPOSE:
To outline procedures that will apply in the jail to insure that inmates are treated fairly and not subject to unlawful discrimination

METHOD:
Except as may be required for the security and orderly operation of the jail, no inmate will be denied access to any program or service, or assigned or not assigned to a job, housing unit, classification status, or program solely on the basis of race, national origin, gender, religion or creed, physical handicap, political belief, or other category proscribed by statutes or regulation. No profane, demeaning, indecent, ethnic, or other discriminatory language or references will be directed toward any inmate. The Jail Commander will insure that all programs, services, and institutional privileges are offered on a nondiscriminatory basis.
