DETENTIONS
SUBJECT: TRAINING STANDARDS AND METHODS

POLICY:
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office shall establish and maintain high
standards of training for all Detention Facility staff.
PURPOSE:
To outline the general training standards that will apply to all
Detention Facility personnel.
METHOD:
Training provided to Detentions staff will include typical classroom
instruction as well as other recognized educational strategies. In
applicable cases, credit will be given for verified prior training.
Training programs will include established requirements for completion,
attendance recording, and a system for recognition of completion.
Employees will receive training consistent with the needs of their
respective job classification and pertinent to their work. The Training
Coordinator will be responsible for planning and coordinating all
training programs to conform to this policy. Annual refresher training
will be conducted for all staff which serves to maintain minimum
competencies in necessary job skills and information areas.
Training Categories: The following training will be provided to
all Detention Facility employees as necessary for their job function
within the facility:
• Initial training (facility training program)
• Use of Force / Defensive tactics
• CPR and first aid
• Firearms Training
• Use of Chemical Agents
• Correspondence Courses
• Detention Academy
• Ground fighting tactics
• Taser
