The Sheriff’s Office consists of 146 total employees with 75
positions dedicated to the detention facility, 48 dedicated
to Patrol, and 23 to Civil and Administrative functions.
All applicants must be at least 21 years of age for sworn
position, 18 for administrative position and control tech; a
high school graduate or have obtained a GED; possess a
Colorado driver’s license (or have the ability to obtain
one) and have a clean criminal history. Applicants for
Patrol positions must be Colorado P.O.S.T certified or
eligible for P.O.S.T. certification training.
The County provides three health benefit packages for you to
choose from. Packages include medical, dental, vision and
prescription benefits at no or affordable cost to the
employee. The PPO III Plan is zero out of pocket with higher
co-pay and deductibles. Or you can choose from PPO I plans
or the PPO II plans with lower co-pays and deductibles.
The White River National Forest is the largest forest in
Colorado with Glenwood Springs as its headquarters. Within
Garfield County sits Glenwood Springs, Colorado which is 160
miles west of Denver and on the west side of the Continental
Divide. It is also halfway between Vail and Aspen, Colorado.
Garfield County itself is home to 55,000 people and is 2,958
square miles.
The County is a Mecca for recreation. While in Garfield
County you can find exciting activities such as hiking,
mountain biking, camping and skiing, both downhill and
cross-country. Other pass-times include hunting, gold medal
fishing, rafting and kayaking.
